Vienna Carroll & The Folk present: Echoes of Our Ancestors: Seneca Village, NYC’s First Free Black Town. This is a musical storytelling of the history of the founding of Seneca Village, details of and the calling of actual names of ancestors who lived, bought and sold there and its demise by eminent domain. The story is interwoven with Spirituals that might have been heard in one of its three churches as well as worksongs, sea shanteys, sounds and rhythms that would have been part of the life of the residents with a hint of music to come.
