FARM TOURS
General Farm Tour
for first-time visitors
This visit introduces students to our farm and the work that we do. We will focus on a 5-senses interactive walking tour and an overview of our chicken coop, compost section, and greenhouse. Students will get to see the process of how we grow food and why we do what we do.
Topic-focused Farm Tour
for returning visitors
Mushrooms
Students will learn about the growing process and harvesting of mushrooms. They will visit our mushroom chamber and explore the world of fungi.
Hydroponics
Learn about innovative growing with our greenhouse expert! Students will get to see the behind-the-scenes process of growing using water and micronutrients in our greenhouse.
Chickens
Groups will learn about and spend time with our hens in the chicken coop! Learn about how chickens are part of our ecosystem at Harlem Grown, and the dynamic lives they live on our farm.
Compost
Students will explore the world of this sustainable practice, while also learning about microbes and the breaking down of food. This lesson is great for groups looking for a more advanced lesson on compost and who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
Bee Keeping
Discover the importance of bees in our environment and how we are dependent on them for much of our food and resources.
Virtual Visit and Presentation
Topics include sustainability, food justice, healthy eating, food culture and more! We also use this experience to encourage those into a “Call to Action” around related topics. This lesson can be adapted for different age groups and group preferences.
